C.S. 55, also known as the Benjamin Franklin School, is located in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. Our school currently services over 514 students in 3K to 5th Grade.

Attendance

  • Students MUST be in school every day!
  • The best way to move your child forward academically, behaviorally, and socially is to have your child in school every day.
  • As much as possible, all doctor’s appointments should be scheduled for after school hours (after 2:20 p.m.) or on holidays.
  • If your child has to go to the doctor during school hours try to schedule for the early morning, so your child can come in later in the day.
  • If your child misses school due to a doctor’s appointment you MUST bring in a doctor’s note.
  • Repeated absences will influence if your child moves to the next grade or is heldover (held back).

Punctuality

  • It is crucial your child is at school by 8:00 a.m. Every minute your child is late, your child is missing an opportunity to learn, grow, and excel in a subject.
  • If your child needs to eat breakfast they should be at school by 7:45 a.m. and enter through the front of the school.
  • Repeated latenesses will influence if your child moves onto the next grade or is heldover (held back).
  • Any travel needs should be addressed in September so we can provide support.

Cell Phones

  • Cell phone use by students is prohibited during instructional times.
  • Students MAY have cell phones on them, but they must be turned off and either in their pocket, or in their bookbags.
  • Any student using a cell phone to talk, text, or surf the internet will have the phone confiscated until the end of the school day (2:20 p.m.)
  • Parents and relatives should not call or text a student during the instructional school day. If a parent has a concern, or must relay a message to their child, they should call the main office.

*Please note that students must be taught cell phone etiquette and have it modeled to ensure appropriate messages, conversations, and activities are occurring on the cell phone.
