Our vision is passionately committed to using a multi-faceted approach to develop the Whole Child to their fullest protentional by providing rigorous and culturally responsive data driven instruction. We foster an inclusive community where excellence, equity and access are achieved by all. Together we are maximizing individuality by cultivating hearts and challenging minds to develop globally minded citizens who have a joy for learning, are critical thinkers, and are advocates for justice.

Our Mission at Community School 55X we dedicate ourselves to creating a safe, nurturing environment where academically rigorous, challenging, and engaging standards-based curriculum and instruction ensure that our students will achieve their highest potential and continue their lifelong quest for knowledge. Because we understand, appreciate, and respect the diversity of our educational community, we celebrate our students’ achievements and value the hard work and accomplishments of all members of our school.

Respectful: We value each person’s beliefs without compromising our shared mission of ensuring the success of all students. We value school property and utilize it in an appropriate manner. We value the school and our community rules and show respect in our actions and in the words that we use.
Organized: We always put forth our best effort and believe that being well organized with our learning material is the beginning of success!
Always Safe: We value and share a commitment to the safety of all students in our community by following the procedure and protocols that are set forth in our school building and within our community.

We are located in District 9
District 9 is on the western edge of the South Bronx including the neighborhoods of Grand Concourse, Morrisania and Tremont. It ends east of Crotona Park. Our Community Superintendent is Harry Sherman. Our Deputh Superintendents are: Jasmin Varela & Anthony Rivera.

Welcome to Community School 55x, a true community school where we believe in educating the whole child. We have an outstanding faculty that supports our students and their families. I encourage our parents to visit the Community School 55 website weekly to improve our communication. Parents are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the teacher pages for homework assignments and project due dates. On behalf of the staff of Community School 55X, I would like to thank everyone who has made a difference in the lives of our children. We are truly grateful to be able to educate the children of CS 55X.

Attendance is a Priority at our School because days off from school add up to Lost Learning Time
Please Note: There are 185 NON School Days per year to spend on family time, holidays, shopping, household jobs, and all other appointments. It is very important to be in school EVERY DAY in order to be ready for college & career!
Frequently Asked Questions
Drop-off begins at 7:45 AM Monday through Friday. Dismissal is at 2:20 PM Monday through Friday.
Students MAY have cell phones on them, but they must be turned off and either in their pocket, or in their bookbags. Any student using a cell phone to talk, text, or surf the internet will have the phone confiscated until the end of the school day (2:20 p.m.)
You can volunteer with the PTA, encourage reading at home and the completion of homework.
